On Dec. 15, Rolf Johansson from Technical Research Institute of Sweden (SP), had appeared on Swedish Public Service Radio and discussed the results from KARON projects and it possible implications for the future transport systems. It was in the channel P4 of the Swedish public service radio and his part of the interview took about 10 minutes. The trigger of the interview was the KARYON final workshop during last week. This morning show has the general public as the audience and thus the discussion was mostly about how KARYON enables the future development in this area.

During KARYON final workshop, the project promotion videos were presented. There is one video for the automotive domain and one for the avionic. These videos describe the work that has been done in the project and the key conceptual results.

We are organizing an open workshop as a forum to present our final results on solutions for safe cooperative systems from the automotive and the avionics domains. The workshop will take place on December 11th, 2014 in Borås, near Gothenburg, Sweden. The event will feature several interesting sessions, namely: • A keynote talk by a representative from Volvo Cars; • Demonstration sessions, highlighting the KARYON project achievements and their applicability in the automotive and avionics domains; • Technical sessions addressing in more detail the main scientific advances and project contributions; • Focused posters and technology demonstrators to highlight particular project achievements; • Participant short talks (and/or posters), highlighting ongoing related initiatives. Chalmers is preparing its final demonstration with Coordinated Intersection Crossing, Vehicular Platooning and Cooperative Lane Change. The demonstration integrates different KARYON’s concepts results, such as level of service, safety kernel, and cooperative level of service evaluator.

The 3rd ASCoMS workshop took place earlier this week, on September 8, as a side event of the leading conference on computer safety, SAFECOMP. The event was once again a success, with a one day program including 9 paper presentations, some of them focusing on KARYON work and results. A new KARYON public deliverable has just been made available in the project web. D2.6 is about the integration of environment models in the KARYON architecture. Among other contributions, the deliverable describes two use cases from the automotive domain along a simple environment model and explains the extraction of application specific views.

Latest results from KARYON have been recently presented by António Casimiro in the 66th IFIP WG10.4 on Dependable and Fault-Tolerant Systems. Several prominent researchers and industry leaders are members of this group. The audience praised the very interesting work that is being developed within KARYON.

Chalmers was interviewed for RTS TV (NOUVO) about concepts developed in the KARYON Project. Elad Michael Schiller (Chalmers) has appeared on NOUVO’s internet TV program. Elad was interviewed on the KARYON results and the expected developments in automatic driving.

Rolf Johansson from SP had presented a joint KARYON paper on ’An Architecture Pattern Enabling Safety at Lower Cost and with Higher Performance’ at ERTS2. The ERTS2 congress is a European cross sector event on Embedded Software and Systems. The 2014 edition has gathered more than 100 talks, 500 participants and 80 exhibitors.
